Delivering Hay
OK - first of all I have a question...how do you get your pictures to come up in your desired order??? Mine always come up in a completely different order than I put them in when I upload them...what am I doing wrong? AND how do you get to show more than five pictures???
We delivered hay this morning. I was lured into going under false pretenses...I had NO IDEA it was going to take the ENTIRE day!!!
I made my husband take me out to lunch. The only place we could get the semi into was the casino...should have seen the looks we got walking into a casino in broad daylight with Son #5. We were immediately met by security and escorted to the family eating place!
Outside they had this statue of a bison. Son #5 is only used to real animals and didn't understand it was a statue so my husband had to hold him for the picture! We are REDNECKS to be sure!!!

Here's our hay buyer unloading the alfalfa hay from the semi...

Here's the cutest truck driver ever...future truck driver that is! Sitting in the driver's seat of the semi waiting for Daddy!

We woke up to snow this morning. Son #5 insisted on 'driving' his truck over to the semi to get in so we could leave...very cute!

The semi...loaded and ready for our ALL DAY adventure!!! See...I need this picture first...how do I do this??? ALSO my spell check isn't working...please don't be too critical of my many errors!!!

Winter Wheat Over East
We loaded up my husband's father and went to our family's dryland farm that is 'over east' meaning it is east of where we live. It's only about 10 or 12 miles east of here but given that the rest of our acreage is so close it feels like it's quite a distance away. We went to check on the winter wheat over there to see how it survived the winter.
Here's our future farmer checking the crop...he was actually more excited about the patches of snow and the rebellion of walking in them without snow boots...I think he's so dang cute...
.JPG)
The views from over east are unsurpassed even with my bad photography. Here's the Sleeping Ute Mountain...

I worked on the quilt I'm quilting for our bed while we drove over...

Here's the farmer, the future farmer and the probe. My husband probed down to see how deep the moisture is...3 feet which sounded great to me but my husband was hoping for more...

Starting seeds
Last year I didn't start gardening until it warmed up enough to put seeds directly into the ground. Store-bought lettuce has me stepping things up a bit for this year. Once you've had home-grown lettuce, store-bought simply will not do!!!
I started several seeds last weekend. These sweet peas are some of the last to come up.

Here's our office. We put the floor in here this winter and then my husband made all of this amazing window trim and the baseboards. I still don't have anything on the walls or in the bookshelves (which actually belonged to my in-laws about 50 years ago when they were starting out in life) but I do have these very stylish (only to me) styrofoam cups full of more seeds I am starting.

The other window in the office full of more seeds.

I'm going to plant these morning glory vines all around the base of our deck. I thought we were going to get all of the JUNK cleaned out from under the deck this winter but we didn't so I'm covering it up until next winter!

I bought some of these seed starting trays at IFA for about $5. I thought this was very reasonable. Then my gardening and extremely practical friend, Glenna, told me about an even more reasonable way of starting them and I turned to my styrofoam cup addiction!

I planted the seeds in the styrofoam cups late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. When they start to sprout I'll post pictures.
What kinds of things are you doing in your gardens?

We miss you!!!
Our Mother...

Grandmother...

Fun-loving light in our lives...

Example of beauty, patience, love, selflessness and grace...

My husband's mother passed away this morning at 1:25. I've only known her for a short time but her impact in my life is profound. She showed such welcoming love to my son and me when we blasted our way into her family. She immediately became a loving mother to me and a wonderful, loving, accepting grandmother to my son. I have seen her exude poise and strength in the face of adversity. I have been lifted by and witness to her overwhelmingly kind and patient nature. I'm so very thankful to have known her here and I will be so excited when we meet again.

One Mile
My dearly beloved Mo (pictured below) and I have a similar problem...portion control...

I've been spending a lot of time with my husband's sister, Sherri. Sherri has the world's most perfect body! She's tall, thin with the just the right size curves in just the right places. If she wasn't family I'm pretty sure I would spend considerable time finding reasons to never see her again!
I asked Sherri the other day about her exercise habits...she 'tries' to put in 30 minutes five days a week for 'heart health' and that's IT!!!
THEN Sherri's equally skinny sister-in-law (Sherri's husband's sister) stopped in while 'running' the trails near the nursing home. I couldn't take it...I had to ask. She said that she works out at least five days a week for at least an hour. I told her I was trying to start 'running' but it was killing me. She said the first mile is the hardest and you just have to push yourself. She's very perky and made this sound really easy.
SO...today I did as instructed and vowed to 'run' one mile. I DID IT!!! I walked for 1 mile, 'ran' one mile, and then walked for another mile and a half. My goal is to run one mile each day for the rest of the week and then boost to a mile and a half of running next week...I will admit here that I am using the term 'run' rather losely as my 'running' is closer to a VERY SLOW jog...does this even count???
I'll keep you posted...if my legs hold out and I actually make it back to the computer!!!

Home
We were supposed to go home this weekend for two reasons...I wanted to spend a little time with my family before our farming season ramps up and we needed to get some suits for Son #2's upcoming mission for our Church.
My husband's mother, one of the most gracious people ever, is not doing well. She has brain cancer and isn't expected to be with us much longer. We decided to postpone our trip home so the boys could be here with her.
I was PLEASANTLY surprised when my buddy, Carol, sent these pictures to me. They are from home. One very odd thing about me that I have noticed over the years is the actual places where I feel at home. Sure my parents beautiful home is and forever will be home. I am so blessed though because anytime I am in the cab of a tractor, as strange as this may sound, I instantly feel at peace and that same kind of 'welcome home' feeling.
The other place I feel at home is near this canal. This is the Buckeye Irrigation Company's canal.

This canal is near and dear to my heart. I spent COUNTLESS hours south of this canal and occasionally north of it in the Roosevelt Irrigation District doing one of the most loathsome tasks...chopping cotton with my Dad and my brother! I used to think we would chop cotton for so long in that hot Arizona sun that eventually we would just die in the fields and Dad would scoop our bodies up with the cotton picker in the Fall. Now those times are so precious to me I cannot think of them without getting tears in my eyes!

And this is the Hassayampa River. The Buckeye Irrigation Company's canal empties into the Hassayampa River and then floats down to the Arlington Canal. This river is within walking distance from my parents home place. I love this place, the people and memories I have there! Didn't I grow up in a beautiful slice of desert?

I AM SO HOMESICK!!! Thank you, Carol, for sending these to me tonight!!!

The Worst Hard Time...
by Timothy Egan is a MUST READ!!! It chronicles the Dust Bowl and the people who fought with the very land they lived on in order to survive. It is phenomenal!
Imagine if you saw this heading for your home not once but over and over and over again for a period of several years...

This book is extremely well written and reads very quick. It really makes me want to get serious about getting out of debt and making sure we have a year supply of food and essentials because we can't really ever know when our very own 'dust bowl' will hit in one form or another.

Quilting
My sister-in-law, Merlene, is the most talented woman alive! She is also one of the most generous! She has spent COUNTLESS patient hours teaching me (and several others) to quilt! I thoroughly enjoy the time with Merlene and I am so thankful for the gift she has given to me!
Here's a quilt I pieced together and then hand-quilted for Son #2's bed. After I get his room painted and clean...I'll take a picture of the entire bed.

I've wanted to make this heart quilt for some time but was too intimidated! I had this machine quilted. I prefer the hand-quilted quilts for beds as machine quilting tends to make quilts kind of stiff.

Here's the entire quilt. I wound up hanging it on the wall. My husband and Son #2 made the CUTEST quilt hanger...pictures forthcoming...meanwhile...see this beautiful hickory floor under the quilt??? This is what we've been doing...major home improvement...I'm praying for help so I won't covet my new floors but boy howdy I do love them!

When I married my husband priority number one for me was making sure my son would have a wonderful Daddy. I accomplished this goal. The surprise has been that this family I have married into not only loves my son but they've taken me in as their own too! This is a testament to the wonderful people they are because I have MANY faults and shortcomings! I am truly blessed!

I'm BaCk!
With a new picture of my handsome husband and Son #5 in front of my Mom & Dad's fireplace at Christmas...

AND from a quick scan of my favorite blogs I see that I need to be invited to view Candi's blog!
ALSO - if you've emailed me in the last 6 weeks...please resend! Our lovely email deleted all of our new messages and I'm certain I received some email in February...namely my invitation to Candi's blog!
I've been reading, quilting, painting (Shyla - I actually have a RED wall in my house now!), trying to start running, walking outside, and endlessly working on our house. Pictures and more information are coming soon on everything but the running...I look RIDICULOUS!!! I haven't actually seen myself but I just know I must be hideous! Every time I hear a vehicle approaching I slow to a walk because I do not want anyone to see my running antics!!!
In concussion news...I AM WELL! Although, a few days after receiving the all clear from the neurologist I started having dizzy spells again...I'm hoping it's some kind of inner ear thing that will go away soon!
Meanwhile...here's some more pictures...
As my Uncle David would say...here's the whole fam-dam...My Dad liked this picture because Son #5 and my nephew were picking their noses at the same time...

My little brother's beautiful family...

Grandma & Grandfather with their reasons to live...our children are VERY blessed to have grandparents who love them so much!!!

The crown princesses and princes of the family! I used to think my brother was the family favorite...then here came the grand kids and neither of us will ever be the favorite again! I would like to note that my only time to shine in the 'favorite' spotlight was the 2 years and 9 months prior to my brother's arrival when I was the only child!
